Lillie, Original One-of-a-kind White Cat Art Doll by Max Bailey

It isn’t hard to guess Lillie’s favorite color. She is a beautiful white cat and to her, pink is the most beautiful color there is.

Lillie loves pink everything....pink dresses, cotton candy, and even the movie “Pretty in Pink”.

Her whole house is painted pink. It’s surrounded by a pale-pink picket fence enclosing a garden filled with pink petunias, pink columbine flowers, and pale pink roses.

In the morning, Lillie wakes up refreshed. She walks out to her pink mailbox to mail her pink invitations, the addresses carefully written in her delicate scroll.

Lillie has decided to invite her friends to attend a party in celebration of spring, and is already planning to serve a cake with pink frosting, along with strawberry ice cream.

Lillie is wearing a lovely pink dress with a wide ruffle around the neck. A satin rose is attached to the center of the ruffle. Her pink blouse has collar and cuffs of antique rose that match her tights. Tan high-button shoes cover her little kitty feet.

Lillie is an original one-of-a-kind work of art, created from my own design and pattern. She is made from 100% cotton fabric which has been sewn, stuffed, and completely hand painted with acrylic paints. Her whiskers are made from stiffened cotton thread.

Lillie’s paws are needle-sculpted, and her arms are button-jointed so that she can pose. Her face was sculpted from paperclay smoothed into her fabric head.

Lillie’s curled tail enables her to sit by herself on a shelf or a table, or in a cabinet. She can also sit on a chair, or stand with a doll stand. (Chair and doll stand not included.) Lillie is meant for display only.

Lillie is signed and sealed with matte varnish for protection and preservation. She is 8 and 1/2 inches tall.

Larissa and Piper, Original One-of-a-kind White Cat and Kitten Art Doll Figurine by Max Bailey

Larissa is a lovely white Turkish Angora cat who has three kittens and a nice little home business. She makes very fashionable hats.

Ever since Larissa created her first hat, orders have been pouring in. All she did was wear it once, when she went to town. The ladies gasped! They each had to have one, and now Larissa’s hats are all the rage.

Larissa usually allows her kittens to participate in the making of her creations. They tunnel under the yards of felt, tumble through the cascade of pretty ribbons, and toss around the colorful silk flowers until they get suddenly tired, as kittens do. Little Piper has fallen asleep right on the brim of Larissa’s latest creation, a tan felt hat with an artful arrangement of pink, blue, and yellow flowers, created just for Miss Sophia.

Soon the doorbell will ring, and Miss Sophia will arrive to pick up her new hat. Poor Piper. As sweet as she looks asleep on the brim, Larissa will have to carefully pick her up and put her to bed with her brother and sister.

Larissa looks very pretty in a mauve long-sleeved dress dotted with little off-white flowers, over which she wears a country blue pinafore with a sash that is tied neatly at the back in a bow. Her fluffy white tail emerges from the off-white petticoats that show below her dress.

Larissa is an original one-of-a-kind work of art, and is meant for display only. No molds are ever used in my work. I sculpted Larissa, her kitten Piper, and the flowered hat from paperclay, and hand painted them with acrylic paints. Larissa’s whiskers are made from stiffened cotton thread.

Larissa is signed and dated, and sealed with matte varnish for protection and preservation. She rests firmly on a turned wooden base that is stained and sealed in golden oak.

Larissa is 6 and 1/2 inches tall.

New Ruffing's Etsy Shop, and New Art Doll Photo Prints

Opal the Pixie Kitten, Version 1

We have just opened our new collective Ruffing's Etsy shop, and we've just added a new photo prints of our original, one-of-a-kind art dolls to that shop. We made our very first sale from our new Etsy shop, and that order went on its way just this morning. Here are the first of the prints. They are made with the same archival cotton art paper and pigment inks as our other prints, and each comes in a protective cello sleeve. They are all made as they are ordered, one at a time, and are each hand signed.

We are in the process of moving the contents of A E Ruffing's Etsy shop to the new Ruffing's Etsy shop, along with our original one-of-a-kind art dolls, and we're moving the prints and fine art from Elizabeth Ruffing's Etsy shop there too. Elizabeth is going to keep her shop open for her handmade toys, and she will probably rename it something like "Hug Me Slugs and Friends".

Three Little Kittens

Fairy Bear by Max Bailey

Fairy Bears do only good deeds, and are so light they can sit in the middle of big pink roses without squashing them. Mine has a blue wand with a gold star on the end. He can just touch a rosebud with the wand, and it will open into a full bloom. This accomplished, his gossamer wings will carry him off to the next mission.

I gave him a circular border of other garden flowers, already open.

Daisy Chains by Max Bailey

A simple spool of thread and some field daisies are all it takes to keep these two little girl bunnies occupied and very pleased with themselves. Their grandmother showed them how to line up the stems of the daisies and wind the thread around them, to make crowns, necklaces, bracelets, and even ankle bracelets.

The one sitting on the tree stump, who has done all the work, has a huge sense of pride and accomplishment in her creations. The other knows, even without a mirror, that she has become far more beautiful than she was before.

Bluebell and Bridget, Original One-of-a-kind Siamese Cat and Kitten Folk Art Dolls by Max Bailey

I am happy to introduce Bluebell, a lovely Siamese mom. Wherever she goes, she carries her kitten tucked safely into the pocket of her dress.

Wise and watchful, her eyes are a brilliant sapphire blue. She is intelligent, inquisitive, and ready at any time to have a conversation.

Bluebell is as proper and respectable as a new mom could be, with her starched white collar, prim pearl buttons, and fashionable two-tone, top-stitched high-button shoes. From her bright white bloomers emerge kitty legs in striped blue and burnt orange tights that match the sleeves of her dress.

Bluebell’s dress has a bluebell flower on the chest pocket, and a fringed pocket on the skirt that matches the fringe at her hemline. She is 13 inches tall.

Lovable Bridget, though only 3 inches tall, is highly detailed right down to her tiny whiskers. Under her mom’s keen supervision, she’s just learning to explore the world that is hers.

I absolutely love Siamese cats, and in making these two, wanted to show the stunning contrasts of a light-colored body, dark points, and extraordinary blue eyes.

To give her that Siamese profile, I modeled the front of Bluebell’s face from paper clay, smoothed into the fabric.

Her whiskers are made from stiffened pearl cotton which I threaded through the paper clay before it dried. Her arms are button-jointed for easy posing, and her paws are needle-sculpted.

Both Bluebell and Bridget are made from 100% cotton fabric which is sewn, stuffed, and completely hand-painted with acrylic paints. They are original one-of-a-kind works of art, created from my own designs and patterns.

They are signed and dated, and sealed with matte varnish for protection and preservation. They are meant for display only.

Bluebell can sit upright all by herself. Her tail supports her very nicely.
