Cleo, Original One-of-a-kind Siamese Cat Art Doll by Max Bailey

Cleo the Siamese cat was named after Cleopatra, in whose time cats who looked much like herself were held in high regard.

Cleo, with her regal and sophisticated looks, is greatly admired. She holds her head high and walks softly with a graceful air, as though she might be a member of the royal family.

As beautiful as she is, Cleo is neither proud nor conceited. She is a gentle soul, never demanding, and is considerate and polite to everyone.

Cleo is dearly loved.

Today, Cleo is wearing a simple blue dress with ruffles at the shoulders, and an orchid satin rose at the center of the front.

She has a dark blue blouse with orchid bands on the neckline and sleeves.

The blue and orchid stripes on her tights match the colors of her blouse.

Her pantaloons are ivory, and brown high-button shoes cover her kitty feet.

Cleo is an original one-of-a-kind work of art, created from my own design and pattern. She is made from 100% cotton fabric which has been sewn, stuffed, and completely hand painted with acrylic paints. Her whiskers are made from stiffened cotton thread.

Cleo’s paws are needle-sculpted, and her arms are button-jointed so that she can pose. Her face was sculpted from paperclay smoothed into her fabric head.

Cleo’s curled tail enables her to sit by herself on a shelf or a table, or in a cabinet. She can also sit on a chair, or stand with a doll stand. (Chair and doll stand not included.) Cleo is meant for display only.

Cleo is signed and sealed with matte varnish for protection and preservation. She is 8 and 1/2 inches tall.

Melody, Original One-of-a-kind Siamese Cat Art Doll by Max Bailey

Melody is a beautiful Siamese cat whose sapphire blue eyes, sweet expression, and loving nature make her dear to everyone who knows her.

Melody can almost always be found sitting in high places, where she can see everyone and everything around her, and where, most importantly, she can be seen.

While Melody is not known for her singing voice, she is always ready for a conversation. She’ll discuss any topic at great length.

Today, Melody is wearing her favorite blue blouse and tights, with her pinwheel patterned skirt. Her fancy gold boots match the buttons on her blouse.

New Ruffing's Etsy Shop, and New Art Doll Photo Prints

Opal the Pixie Kitten, Version 1

We have just opened our new collective Ruffing's Etsy shop, and we've just added a new photo prints of our original, one-of-a-kind art dolls to that shop. We made our very first sale from our new Etsy shop, and that order went on its way just this morning. Here are the first of the prints. They are made with the same archival cotton art paper and pigment inks as our other prints, and each comes in a protective cello sleeve. They are all made as they are ordered, one at a time, and are each hand signed.

We are in the process of moving the contents of A E Ruffing's Etsy shop to the new Ruffing's Etsy shop, along with our original one-of-a-kind art dolls, and we're moving the prints and fine art from Elizabeth Ruffing's Etsy shop there too. Elizabeth is going to keep her shop open for her handmade toys, and she will probably rename it something like "Hug Me Slugs and Friends".

Violet the Siamese Kitten, Original One-of-a-kind Art Doll Figurine by Max Bailey

Violet is very shy.

When guests arrived this morning, she hid behind her mama and peeked at them from around her mama’s skirt.

“Don’t be such a shrinking violet,” her mama said to her.

Before she went to sleep that night, Violet worried. “What if I am shrinking?” she asked herself. “What if I become really tiny? What if I disappear altogether?”

Just as the sun was coming up, she nudged her little sister.

“Can you see me?” she asked.

“Yup. You’re as big as life,” answered her sister, yawning and barely opening one eye.

Violet was not reassured. She went to the measuring mark her mother had made on the wall and put a little book on her head, squishing her ears down. Surprisingly, she was taller than the mark!

Violet went to the edge of the woods and picked some violets. She carried the violets around all day. They didn’t shrink either.

“It’s just a figure of speech,” her mama later explained. “You aren’t really shrinking. You’re just shy, and we absolutely love you just as you are.” Mama put the violets in water and put them on the kitchen table, and smiled to herself.

Violet is an original one-of-a-kind work of art, and is meant for display only. No molds are ever used in my work. She and her violets are hand-sculpted from paperclay, and are entirely hand painted with acrylic paints. Violet’s dress is painted lavender, with dark violet trim and a dark violet bow at the back. She wears white petticoats, from which her little dark tail emerges.

Violet is signed and dated, and sealed with matte varnish for protection and preservation. She rests firmly on a turned wooden base that is stained and sealed in golden oak.

Violet is an itty bitty kitty. She stands only 4 and 5/8 inches tall. She comes with a hang tag, a certificate of authenticity, and a copy of her story.

Crystal the Siamese Pixie Kitten, Original One-of-kind Art Doll Figurine by Max Bailey

Crystal is a Siamese Pixie kitten with beautiful butterfly wings.


Little mythical pixies of folklore love glittery things, and Crystal is no exception. In the winter, she loves to look at raindrops, and she marvels at icicles.

On warm summer nights, if you leave your window open just a crack, Crystal may fly into your house, especially if you have a crystal chandelier.

She might peek into your jewelry box. If you cannot find your earrings, don’t worry. They’ll show up. Crystal’s been known to borrow shiny things, but always brings them back. They might turn up by the toaster, or on the hall table. She often can’t remember where she got things from.

Crystal looks very innocent in her simple country blue dress with pale pink petticoats. She holds her tiny paws demurely in front of her, and her long dark tail curls around from beneath her petticoats.

Luna the Pixie Kitten, Original One-of-a-kind Siamese Folk Art Cat Doll by Max Bailey and Elizabeth Ruffing

Have you seen Luna?

Luna is a pixie kitten, one of those mystical winged creatures of folklore with pointed ears who are said to be uncommonly beautiful.

Luna’s wide open blue eyes are brimming with kindness and good will, and she has not an ounce of malice in her heart. She is amiable and good-humored in all that she does. She never ever does anything naughty.

Luna loves to dance. Although her ballet moves may be just a bit awkward and ungainly, you must admit her tutu is really pretty.

Luna likes people, and she can be very helpful with work around the house or in the garden. If you lend her a feather duster, or even a Swiffer, she will whisk away the cobwebs in the uppermost corners. She will flit through the garden and land on a branch where, with her odd little voice, she will summon the bees to pollinate the flowers.

Pixie kittens bring untold blessings to those who are fond of them. Just ask Luna. She will tell you.

Luna’s arms and legs are button-jointed with antique-looking silver filigreed metal buttons, so she can easily pose. Her face was sculpted from paperclay smoothed into her fabric head. Her front paws are needle sculpted, and her whiskers are made from stiffened cotton thread.

Luna’s curled tail enables her to sit very well balanced all by herself on a shelf, or a table, or in a cabinet.

Luna’s delightful tutu is made from layers of tulle, in lavender pink and lavender blue, with a hand-sewn waistband of light blue that snaps at the back and has a soft satin rose at the center.

Her mystical wings are made from cotton fabric and are completely hand-quilted.

Luna’s bodysuit is painted rich lavender blue, with a golden sliver of moon at the neckline. Her tights are the color of an orchid, and her ballet shoes are the color of a purple iris.
