Rosalie the Red Rose Fairy, Original One-of-a-kind Folk Art Doll by Max Bailey

Rosalie the Red Rose Fairy, Original One-of-a-kind Folk Art Doll by Max BaileyAccording to my grandmother, we had fairies to thank for all things beautiful on the earth. From her imagination (and from mine), here is Rosalie, the Red Rose Fairy.

Rosalie the Red Rose Fairy, Original One-of-a-kind Folk Art Doll by Max BaileyIn the spring, Rosalie flutters lightly through gardens like a butterfly, bending gracefully over the delicate buds of the red rose bushes, touching each with her rose-tipped wand to make them open. Blue-eyed and raven-haired, she is dressed all in teal blue, with a cascade of roses, rosebuds, and leaves that flow down her body to her toes. The golden three-leaf motif at her neckline also encircles her wrists, and her colorful wings bear portraits of her favorite flower.

Rosalie the Red Rose Fairy, Original One-of-a-kind Folk Art Doll by Max BaileyIf this year, your red roses have elegant, exquisite, and heavenly blooms that sweetly perfume the air, it is very likely the enchanting Rosalie has paid your garden a visit.

Rosalie the Red Rose Fairy, Original One-of-a-kind Folk Art Doll by Max BaileyRosalie is 12 1/4 inches tall, and her wings measure 8 inches across. She is made from 100% cotton fabric which is sewn, stuffed, and completely hand-painted with acrylic paints. I quilted her wings and attached them separately. She holds a wand made from wire, with a rose at the tip that I created from ribbon.

Rosalie the Red Rose Fairy, Original One-of-a-kind Folk Art Doll by Max BaileyThere is a small loop in the back of Rosalie’s head, should you wish to hang her up. She can also sit in a chair or on a shelf, or stand with a doll stand. (Chair and doll stand not included.) She is signed and dated, and sealed with matte varnish for protection and preservation.

Rosalie the Red Rose Fairy, Original One-of-a-kind Folk Art Doll by Max BaileyRosalie is an original one-of-a-kind work of art, created from my own design and pattern. She is meant for display only.

"A E Ruffing's Gorgeous Art"

I'd like to extend a special thank you to Darla Dixon for featuring us on her blog. Thanks Darla! You can see her pencil portraits and other drawings on her web site and in her Etsy shop.

New A E Ruffing Art Prints on Etsy

My Etsy shop has some new additions. I've listed quite a few of my fine art giclées in my shop. These are a small sampling. Above is "Oriole and Daylily", depicting a Northern Oriole perched on an orange daylily.
This is "Hiding", showing a little Eastern cottontail rabbit tucked away among the black-eyed Susans.

And this is "Sunday Morning", a country porch scene with a rocking chair, all in blues and greens.
All of these giclée prints are based on my original watercolor paintings, and are printed on heavy-weight fine art paper. Please visit my shop and take a look!

New Elizabeth Ruffing Fairy Prints

These are two new fairy art giclée prints for our Ruffing's web site. Both are a standard size 8.5 by 11 inch image size on 9.5 x 12 inch fine art paper. Both are fantasy pieces based on my original watercolor and pen and ink paintings. Above is "Moon and Star" which depicts the moon as a woman with butterfly wings and a star as a young girl. Both are descending toward the horizon at dawn.
This giclée is entitled "The Moon Sings a Lullaby". I was imagining what kind of lullaby the moon would sing, if the moon could sing, to help people drift off to sleep. I thought of the sounds of katydids, which I’ve always loved to listen to on summer nights. And I thought of the poppy field in The Wizard of Oz, which caused Dorothy and her friends to fall asleep on their way to The Emerald City. This is the moon singing us all to sleep with a lullaby full of poppies and katydids.
Both prints are also available in my Etsy shop. Please visit!

New Max Bailey art dolls in the works

These are my drawings for two original folk art dolls I am working on. The one on the left will be a fairy. I am planning to give her a rose-tipped wand to help her tend her gardens.

The one the right is an angel holding a bouquet of pansies. With spring on the way, I am thinking about flowers and how happy I will be to see them make a return.

Lumina, Original one-of-a-kind Folk Art Fairy Doll by Max Bailey

Lumina, Original one-of-a-kind Folk Art Fairy Doll by Max Bailey Here is Lumina, a picture in my memory from my grandmother’s bedtime stories of fairies who flitted around the night sky doing their good deeds. Beautiful and serene, this sweet-faced fairy touches the stars with her magic wand, making them shine a little brighter. A magical and mystical being, she clears away the fog, sometimes leaving a shining trail. When the night is clear, and the heavens are sparkling, she knows her work is done.

Lumina, Original one-of-a-kind Folk Art Fairy Doll by Max BaileyLumina is 12 inches tall and her wings measure 6 and 1/2 inches across. She is made from 100% cotton fabric which is sewn, stuffed, and painted with acrylic paints. I painted her body with an elaborate pattern of stars, moons, and celestial swirls, first blue on blue, then diagonally across her body and down to her feet in gold, red, and orange hues.

Lumina, Original one-of-a-kind Folk Art Fairy Doll by Max BaileyHer wings are quilted and separately attached. I gave them golden edges and stars that seem to radiate light. She has blue eyes and golden hair that I like to think of as touched by starlight. She holds a wand made of wood and paperclay.

Lumina, Original one-of-a-kind Folk Art Fairy Doll by Max BaileyThere is a small loop in the back of her head, should you wish to hang her up. She can also sit on a chair or on a shelf, or stand with a doll stand. (Chair and doll stand not included.) She is signed and dated, and sealed with matte varnish for protection and preservation.

Lumina, Original one-of-a-kind Folk Art Fairy Doll by Max BaileyLumina is a true one-of-a-kind original work of art that began with a visual memory, then became a concept. I created her from my own design and pattern. She is meant for display only.
